The Hand is the standard unit for measuring horse height worldwide. One hand equals exactly 4 inches. For example, an average riding horse stands about 15-16 hands (60-64 inches) tall at the shoulder. This measurement is taken from the ground to the horse's withers (shoulder ridge). The hectometer (hm) is useful for measuring sports tracks (1 lap = 4 hm), urban blocks (~1–2 hm long), or vineyard rows. Road signs in some European countries use hectometers for minor distance markers.
To convert between Hand (hh) and Hectometer (hm), use the following formulas:
1 Hand (hh) = 0.001016 Hectometer (hm)
1 Hectometer (hm) = 984.2519685039371 Hand (hh)
1 hh = 1 * 0.001016 hm = 0.001016 hm
2 hh = 2 * 0.001016 hm = 0.002032 hm
5 hh = 5 * 0.001016 hm = 0.0050799999999999994 hm
10 hh = 10 * 0.001016 hm = 0.010159999999999999 hm
15 hh = 15 * 0.001016 hm = 0.01524 hm
20 hh = 20 * 0.001016 hm = 0.020319999999999998 hm
