About Delisle (°D) and Rankine (°R) Units

The Delisle scale (°De), created in 1732 by French astronomer Joseph-Nicolas Delisle, is a historical temperature system. Unlike modern scales, it sets the boiling point of water at 0°De and the freezing point at 150°De. This scale was mainly used in Russia and parts of Europe for early meteorological observations and scientific measurements. Although no longer used today, Delisle remains of interest for historical studies and temperature conversions. Rankine (°R) is a temperature scale named after the Scottish engineer William Rankine. It is mainly used in engineering and thermodynamics, especially in the United States. The Rankine scale uses absolute zero as its starting point, so 0°R equals absolute zero, and water freezes at 491.67°R. It is commonly used in heat engine calculations, thermodynamic cycles, and aerospace engineering where absolute temperatures are required in Fahrenheit increments.
