Kelvin (K) is the standard temperature unit used in science, physics, and engineering to measure absolute temperature. Unlike Celsius and Fahrenheit, Kelvin starts at absolute zero (0 K), which is the lowest possible temperature where all molecular motion stops. Kelvin does not use the degree symbol. The Rømer scale (°Rø) is developed by the Danish astronomer Ole Rømer in 1701. In this system, water freezes at 7.5°Rø and boils at 60°Rø. It is no longer used in modern temperature measurements but remains important in historical studies.
